a bit about Alan
It's safe to say that my story is not unlike many photographers; started when I was a kid, always had a passion and love for photography, was given my first camera when I was 12, been pursuing the dream ever since. See, pretty familiar. Fortunately, the journey along the way has been fairly unique, at least for me.

I've been all over the world photographing everything from remote Kurdish villagers on mountain tops with a 4x5 camera, to making portrait illustrations of aspiring actors on location in NYC, to pig farm workers in the back woods of North Carolina. Basically, some fairly random moments with some pretty amazing people in some really incredible locations; all to make an interesting and captivating portrait. It has consistantly been a series of new experiences and interesting people over the 14 years that I have been in the industry.

To balance my professional shooting career, I also work as a photographic instructor which I have done for 6 years at various workshop companies and photographic institutes across the states. I instruct not only in workshops and colleges, but also one-on-one as a mentor and consultant covering everything from location portrait lighitng, to marketing, to pursuing your own photographic career and passion. The more I expand and experience as a photographer, the more I am able to offer as an educator. Seems like a pretty great balance, and a great career to me.
At least I'm not complaining!
